Another day, another dreamy North East location. Today we’re giving you a little guide on what to do in Corbridge, a cute little village in the heart of Northumberland. It’s surrounded by stunning, countryside views and still just 16 miles from Newcastle City Centre, it’s a great place for a day-trip or weekend getaway. Keep on reading to discover all the best things to do there!

Things to do

Shop in small independent shops

One of the biggest selling points of Corbridge is the cute independent shops - you know we’re huge advocates for shopping small here at For The Love of The North! When visiting Corbridge, walking around the small, independent shops is an absolute must. Some of our favourites are:

Forum Books - the perfect little shop for book lovers! The smell of books is something I’m sure we all love and walking into this shop, you won’t be disappointed. You could spend hours getting lost in all of the paper-bound stories.

RE - a converted workshop that sells an array of unusual items, a lot of recycled, rescued and restored things! We could spend hours rifling through their workshop of wonders. Not only is it a wonderful place to find some eccentric pieces but it’s also extremely Instagrammable!

If they don't sound like something for you, then not to worry - Corbridge high street has plenty to offer for every visitor, so we're sure you'll find something you love.

Visit Corbridge Roman Town

Another must-see is the Corbridge Roman Town - preserved ruins of a Roman garrison located on Hadrian's wall, plus a museum of excavated artefacts. Corbridge was a supply base and bustling town where the Romans and civilians would pick up food and provisions. Today, you can still walk through the town's streets and experience a true time-capsule of Roman life. You can see a valuable hoard of objects found during excavations, including Roman armour and trinkets, which provide a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier.

Enjoy peace and tranquillity at Dilston Physic Garden

Discover the power of plants! A garden like no other, brimming with over 700 medicinal plants, plants used as medicines throughout history. Experience an ultimate relaxation garden, a tranquil space in which its plants and people nurture mind, body and spirit. It’s a totally unique, unmissable experience.

Walk along the river from Corbridge to Hexham

Did you know that the same river that runs through Newcastle (the River Tyne) also runs through Corbridge? Well it does! And surrounded by the countryside views, it’s absolutely stunning. The peaceful banks in this beautiful village are perfect for a long leisurely walk with the dog or a picnic in the sunshine.

Admire quirky cottages and cute streets

We highly recommend a walk around the cute little countryside streets. Wandering around the rows of quirky cottages decorated with brightly coloured doors and flowers, it’s like being lost in a daydream. And dare I say it again, very Instagrammable!

Places to Eat / Drink

Black Bull Pub

What kind of countryside village would it be without a pub?! A rustic 18th-century inn serving traditional British pub dishes and real ales, and it proves very popular with both the locals and visitors. As it’s a popular pub, booking beforehand is advised to make sure you get a table.

Corbridge Larder

Winner of the Farm Shop & Deli Retailer Awards in the North East, it’s an essential place to visit in Corbridge as it’s perfect for picking up some tasty treats and gifts for friends and family. All of their food is locally sourced and premium fresh quality. You really are presented with a “taste of the North” when you enter and whether your tooth is savoury or sweet there really is something for everyone.
